Do I have to call you or can my patient call?

If a patient requires a private referral, you or your staff can call us, you can also ask your patient to contact us. We will respond within 30 mins with the appointment details and the consultant's phone and fax numbers. Alternatively we can give you the names and numbers of consultants appropriate for the referral if you would prefer to make the appointment yourself.

How quickly is the patient seen if the problem is urgent?

Within 24 to 48 hours.

How quickly can you arrange an admission?

Within the hour.

What if I need a specialist out of hours?

We have a detailed list of the doctors who have agreed to be contacted at weekends and Bank Holidays.

How do I know you will send my patient to the appropriate specialist?

The information we have includes the individual Consultant's special interests.

What is the criteria for granting practising privileges for specialists at your hospitals?

Doctors who work within HCA have to have held or hold a substantive NHS post. They must provide extensive documentation, proof of qualification, speciality and insurance cover. HCA has an accreditation process to ensure information is current and the hospitals Medical Advisory Committees approve all applications.
